EXECUTIVE COACHING

Executive Coaching - Overview

We’ve been supporting front line responders, in terms of mentoring and executive / career transition support, for a number of years. In fact we’ve been providing ex-service men and women support for nearly two decades. We even employ ex-front line responders in the organisation as they study to ultimately go on and do better things for both themselves and their families.

Background

Before you start thinking it’s all really ‘silly stuff’ ask yourself this: why do career military officers enter into reintegration programs before they exit the service. And then stay in the program  for 6-12 months afterwards?’

Whether you like it or not, the system has conditioned you. And it’s not dissimilar to someone who has spent their entire career in aged care. They system moulds you. It has to. It’s our goal to show you this and then help you map out the future you want for yourself.

Career Transition

Delivering career transition advice may seem strange when our goal is to support first line responders who dedicate their life to serving, but not everyone wants to stay in the same job for 30 years. Moving to a whole new industry isn’t unusual - but for many first line responders it seems impossible and often uncomfortable.

Change and the desire to stretch yourself and expand is natural. And moving forward shouldn’t be constrained by the ‘system’ you’re tiring of. That’s where we come in.

We appreciate all too well that first line responders often find moving to the private sector or even starting their own business as daunting or even dis-loyal. Others question whether they have the skills to even get started.

Others move because they are so disenchanted with the system they do it simply out of spite. This is not as infrequent as you may think.

But don’t let it get to that point. We’ll believe in you and support you through the entire journey. And we’ll even allow you to remain a member.

Those who thrive through and after a career change, make the conscious decision to unravel the puzzle early. It’s a humbling process that will set you free and more importantly, set you up for life.

Our Program

We have our own program and it’s called: The ASPIRE Program. And before you start bagging it out - because that’s what most people do because they always start out so unbelievably talented and of course know everything - 40% of recipients struggle with the program. Apparently it’s too tough.

The program seeks to achieve three main objectives:

  1. Clearly and honestly accept where you’ve come from and why you are here.

  2. To ensure you achieve all of your career dreams and perhaps even more.

  3. You become a trusted, respected and most importantly; an authentic person and leader.

Have a guess at what is the toughest element?

NO.3 is the toughest element.

We’re all tired of stale leadership. This isn’t a criticism of individuals, it’s a broad reflection of the state of leadership in general. Who do you look up to? Who in leadership do you admire? If you can pick more than 3 people off the bat, you’re fortunate.

We’ve found that most ‘leaders’ find it difficult to think outside the box. And find it almost impossible to take a punt. This partly explains why many come across as bland or not approachable.

At ASPIRE we appreciate the negativity, but we don’t focus on it. Our goal is to rebuild courage in leaders.

In our view the future of leadership will be defined by one factor: authenticity. It won’t be defined by how much you master ChatGPT.

Secondly, ASPIRE seeks to build generational value. We seek to change tomorrow, before tomorrow even starts. And we’ll show you how.

It’s a structured, disciplined and well laid out program. It starts with a questionnaire, moves forward by locking defined regular meetings and yes, you will have to work at it. We don’t gloss over the hurdles, or shy away from challenges. Our goal is to watch you shine.

Support Process

Our goal is to support you to make strategic decisions. More often than not, changing career can and should take time. Mapping that process out, starts today. You should not be leaving the decision until some moment in time when you’re fed up. Start putting together a plan and move toward your goal by reaching key milestones. You’ll know when you’re ready, but our advice is don’t leave it to chance. Give yourself the best possible opportunity to take off and succeed. When you do this, the change will be the most rewarding experience of your life

Transferable Skills

Don’t make the mistake of believing your skills are 100% transferable. It’s a common misconception, especially amongst senior military personnel and explains why some really struggle to cope away from the military environment. We know. We’ve worked with them.

The truth of the matter is that the private sector - depending on the sector - will no doubt value many of the key attributes you’ve developed through years of service. But you will need to adapt.

Relying on ‘what you know’ explains why key front line responders like police, end up in justice or investigative related bureaucratic roles. But remember this: many are still not happy and feel just as trapped - if not more trapped - than they were in the police.
